Viaje Circa ’45 No 3

The Viaje Circa ’45 Reserva Edición Limitada is draped in an almost black wrapper with a very toothy texture, yet minimal oiliness. Prominent veins course through the length of the cigar. It feels firmly packed when squeezed. Aromas of cocoa, earth, barnyard, cedar, leather, nuts and faint nutmeg emanate from the wrapper and foot. On the cold draw, robust dark chocolate, peanut shells, hay, nutmeg, cedar, a whisper of vanilla and a floral hint come through.

This cigar opens not with a peppery bang but layered waves of deep dark chocolate and cedar, unaccompanied by any spice or pepper on the finish or retrohale. Supporting notes of earth, espresso beans, barnyard, hay, nuts, nutmeg and faint citrus drift in and out. The palate offers little sweetness thus far. Construction-wise, the burn starts off undulating but needs no touch-ups yet while the draw is excellent. Both smoke output and thickness are copious. Strength is a solid medium by the close of the first third.
